Dominiq Ponder, Colorado quarterback, killed in car crash

At approximately 3 a.m. MT, Colorado State Patrol responded to the crash on Baseline Road, near the area of Baseline Reservoir in Boulder County. A CSP release said that Ponder lost control of his vehicle on a right-hand curve, crossed into the opposing lane of traffic and went through a guard rail. The release said the Tesla Model 3 then struck an electrical pole, rolled down an embankment, landed on its wheels and caught on fire. Wildfire near Chautauqua Park in Boulder is fully contained after more than 100 firefighters responded

BOULDER — More than 100 firefighters quickly snuffed out a wildfire that started Saturday afternoon in the area of Chautauqua Park, and crews were able to fully contain the fire within about five hours.

Hundreds of hikers had to be evacuated from Chautauqua Park and the surrounding Boulder County Open Space area, but no injuries were reported, Boulder Fire and Rescue Chief Michael Calderazzo said during a news conference.

Crews gain containment on Lee fire as Colorado governor issues disaster declaration for wildfires across state

GRAND JUNCTION — Good news arrived to the Western Slope. While the Lee Fire continues to grow in acreage, containment has gone up and the fire lines have held.

RIFLE — The hummingbirds have gone silent on Moe Disney’s 32 acres in Garfield County. Disney bought the land in 2018 to settle down in retirement, where more than 100 hummingbirds have spent their summers enjoying nine birdfeeders on the property.

Firefighters brace for “extreme fire behavior” as weather intensifies around Lee fire in northwestern Colorado

RIFLE — Firefighters are preparing for extreme fire behavior Wednesday as the Lee fire expands south between Meeker and Rifle. By Tuesday night, the fifth-largest fire in Colorado history grew to 120,650 acres and its containment dropped.
